Battery-powered lawn mowers have become increasingly popular in recent years as they offer many benefits over traditional petrol powered mowers. One of the key advantages of these mowers is their low maintenance requirements. However, even with a battery-powered mower, some basic monthly maintenance is still necessary to ensure optimal performance and extend the lifespan of the mower.
As a proud owner of an Allett Liberty Cylinder Mower, you want to ensure that it operates at its best for years to come. Regular maintenance is the key to keeping your mower in tip-top shape and avoiding costly repairs down the road.
Here is a simple guide to monthly maintenance for the Allett Liberty 43 battery-powered lawn mower.
-
Clean the Mower The first step in monthly maintenance is to clean the mower. Dirt, grass clippings, and debris can accumulate on the deck, cylinder blade and other parts of the mower. This can impede the performance of the mower. To clean the mower, simply wipe down the deck, blades, and other parts with a damp cloth or soft brush paying particular attention to the cooling fins on the end of the motor and charger. Ensure the safety key is taken out of the mower as well as the battery. You can remove the cylinder from the mower and use a hose pipe to wash it off however do not use a hose pipe on the mower itself. You can also wash your grassbox with water. Ensure the cylinder is dried off after washing. You can use WD40 oil after washing to displace water. Make sure you are wearing gloves at all times.
-
Check the Battery The second step is to check the battery. Make sure the battery is securely engaged when placing in the mower and that the connections are tight. Check the battery level and charge the battery if necessary. If the battery has not been used in a while, it may need to be recharged even if the charge level is still high. Store your battery in a cool dry place when not in use.
-
Check the Blades The third step is to check the blades. Dull blades can cause the mower to work harder using more battery life and will also result in a less precise cut. You can use the paper test to check that the cylinder is sharp all the way across the cylinder. If it is not cutting paper all the way across you may need to adjust the cylinder to bottom blade adjustment. You can then also back-lap your mower to ensure your cylinder is sharp. We advise getting this done professionally by an Allett dealer at least once a year. They can also check for stone chips etc.

If you are not comfortable performing any of these tasks, consult the owner's manual or take the mower to an Allett authorised dealer for maintenance. We advise you are having your mower serviced by an Allett dealer once a year- or at least every second year.
